Every year I create a Christmas card for my Niece that's just a little different than your everyday holiday card. This year the emphasis went to their new baby boy. I photographed him holding an empty snow globe and then after selecting which image we wanted to use, shot the rest of the family against a white background in the appropriate pose for the globe. The images were assembled in Photoshop where snow and reflections where added. It was a fun project.

Every once in a while you find a person like Bob who just looks great if front of a camera. Almost every shot was a "keeper" and it was a blast working with him. Bob, who specializes in narrating audio books, has a fantastic voice which was apparent the moment he spoke. I have no doubt he will do well in his industry. Bay View, South Darmouth, MA

I spent a great deal of my summers in this special place. My days were spent on the water where I sailed, fished, and water skied. It's located on the edge of Padanaram harbor in Buzzards Bay where the Concordia Company built their famous and beautiful yawls. Bay View is a small community, tucked away and bypassed by the streams of traffic going to Cape Cod. In may ways there has been little change over all these years – and that's a good thing.

Corporate Portraits

I was chosen by AltieriSeborWieber, an engineering firm in Norwalk, to create a series of portraits for use in their company website. I offer businesses a great package if I can photograph three or more people during the same session. These were taken in their office with my portable studio setup. It doesn't require much space and can be setup and ready to go in about a half hour. Clients really like this as they don't have to travel or take out precious time from their busy schedules. People come in one at a time for about 15-20 minutes while I shoot a series of images that are viewed immediately on the larger screen of my portable computer. We make sure we have a number of acceptable images before their session ends. The photos are taken back to my studio for a little post processing touch up and cropping before being delivered either by electronic transfer or a disk in the mail.

Waking up to a fresh snow is always a treat – until you have to go out and shovel. We are having record snow amounts this January and I've just about had my fill. These are a few quick shots taken from the comfort of my house just as the sun was rising.

Lots of headshots lately as companies are putting faces to the names on websites and business cards. This insurance company had everyone photographed at multiple sites, but in similar fashion to assure continuity on their website. Each individual was free to make their own final selection.

Fashion Shoot — Liquid Flow Clothing

I completed a fashion shoot this past summer for Liquid Flow Clothing, a really great line of cutting edge men's shorts. We spent the day on or near the water which was a great fit with my history of marine photography. Other than a sudden squall passing through, the (long) day went without a hitch and we created a number of great shots. Here is a quick peak of the LFC splash page.

Marine Photography at the Westport Public Library

I am pleased to announce that a collection of my marine related photography will be on display at the Westport Public Library for the months of February and March. It's been a busy time getting everything framed and ready for the Feb. 1 installation but I'm looking forward seeing the work in such a great public venue. The library will be hosting a reception on Friday, February 5 from 6 – 7 p.m. This is open to the public so please stop in if your in the neighborhood.

Golf Course Photography - Recent Shoot

I recently put the final touches on a golf course job for a local country club. It had just gone over a major renovation and I was asked to provide a new image library. It was a fun job because the course was local allowing me to watch the weather and jump over quickly when the conditions were just right. On the other hand, I couldn't wait too long as fall was quickly approaching and the leaves would soon be off the trees. I was fortunate to have great people at the course to work with and the final results really came out well. A small sampling of the shots can be seen by clicking here.

I'm being asked to shoot more & more headshots as people realize that a fuzzy camera phone photograph is not the best way to portray themselves on networking sites. Let's face it (no pun intended), how people see us is important and if we are using network sites for business purposes, especially job hunting, a great photo can only enhance your presentation. David Bartlett Woodworking – website

This is a screen shot from a newly posted website for a really fine woodworker named David Bartlett. The photo, along with many throughout the site were taken by yours truly. David does remarkable work and this particular piece is one of many he did for an absolutely incredible house here in Connecticut. It's a magnificent Adirondack log cabin style home perched on the upper edge of a beautiful valley. Every piece of wood in the house is hand crafted and a number of Dave's works are the center pice of many rooms. Gallery Photos at Mitchells of Westport

A large selection of my studio gallery prints have been chosen by Mitchells of Westport for display throughout their store and a couple of their front window displays. Mitchells is an upscale clothing retailer for both men and women that is renowned for their exceptional and over-the-top customer service. Jack Mitchell even wrote a book about it... "Hug Your Customers". They also own Richards in Greenwich, CT and Marshs in Huntington, NY. (Sorry, the photos are only at the Westport store.) Here is a link to their website.

Back to golf courses... it's that time of year in New England when the trees are just getting their new leaves. I've been waiting since last fall to shoot this particular course and finally the weather cooperated with a beautiful sunny morning. Capt. Chris Elser – Fishing Guide and Charters

I got a call last night from a good friend who is also one of the top fishing guides in the area, Captain Chris Elser. He wanted to get a few publicity shots and asked if I would like to join him this morning while he was on a scouting trip for a charter later this week. Needless to say, he didn't have to twist my arm very hard and I met him at the dock just after sunrise. As usual, the weather report was a little off and there was more wind than predicted, but the skies were blue and crystal clear, making for great photographs. After catching a number of striped bass Chris gave me a much needed casting lesson with the fly rod. Being a professional, he never laughed out loud at my feeble attempts but I'm sure he was tempted many a time. It wasn't long before I was back behind the camera... where I belong.

If your interested in some great saltwater fishing, either conventional or fly, I strongly urge you to give Chris a call. He offers both charters on his own well equiped boat or he can act as a guide on yours. Either way you will have a great time and learn a lot about fishing. Headshot - Graphic Designer Cindy Wieting

A few months ago I met Cindy at a local Chamber of Commerce meeting. Turns out she is a graphic designer, a really good graphic designer. Over time we have gotten to know each other's business and have made a number of referrals to each other. One day I mentioned to her that the headshot she was using, which was taken with a camera phone, wasn't doing her justice and I offered to re-shoot it. She came over for a photo session and I took a nice series of shots that she can use for all her self-promotion needs. Cindy has great energy and it was a fun shoot.

Private Yacht Portraits

One of the services I offer is personal yacht portraits, giving the boat owner the opportunity to obtain high quality dynamic images of his yacht underway. Packages are custom designed to fit the needs of the client and can include photos with the boat at anchor, night and interior shots, with or without people, open water or scenic backgrounds. Some owners are looking to sell and understand how great photos will make their boat stand out amongst the competition. Others are looking for a really special photograph that can be enlarged, framed, and hung on the wall as a piece of art. Printing on canvas with the right image can be as striking as a beautiful painting.

The shoot usually takes place in one day and may last from two to four hours. The location is up to the client but this will all be discussed ahead of time. Locally, Fairfield County offers islands, lighthouses, shorelines with classic New England cottages or stately mansions. All can be utilized to make a great photo.

Like any portrait session, the subject should be looking its best and the owner should plan on prepping the boat and putting it in "Bristol" condition. The crew should be dressed appropriately, lines stored in their proper places, unnecessary gear stored away, the hull waxed and the bottom cleaned. And then there is the weather, which can change by the hour here in New England. Ideally, we can arrange for a window of a few days in which to select the perfect conditions. If it all comes together the client will end up with a photo of his boat that he will cherish — at least until he gets his next boat!

We live in a visual world and if you utilize professional networking sites such as Linkedin.com it's important that the images used to portray yourself give the right impression. Think of all the time you put into a resume – polishing, proofreading, maybe even enlisting the help of a professional to make sure everything is just right. The same effort should be put into the photo that represents you. Find a photo or better yet, hire a photographer to create an image that portrays you as competent and professional. Show yourself as a person others would like to hire or do business with. The photo is another important part of standing out in an increasingly competitive environment. A snapshot from your camera phone just won't do it.

You know its been cold when the Saugatuck River in Westport freezes over. I went out this Sunday morning in ten degree weather to take a few photos. This image is actually three photos that have been combined in Photoshop to create a very detailed panorama. If you click on the image it will enlarge to give you a better view.
