Star's are an Olympic class sailboat, crewed by two people, the skipper and "crew". These are fast, technical boats that require a great deal of agility to sail competitively. The preferred crew member is usually a heavy person so their weight can be effectively used to offset the heal created by the powerful mainsail. This crew member spends most of his time hiked out on the rail in a crunch position with his butt skimming the water. Although he is hooked into a harness, this is a very physical job and requires a great deal of agility during tacks as he must quickly get into the cockpit, duck the boom which only clears the deck by inches, and quickly get situated on the other side of the boat. All this while doing his part of trimming the sails. I no longer crew Stars.
