Cockenoe Island is just off the shore of Westport, CT and is the eastern most island of a chain that is commonly know as the Norwalk Islands. This is a favorite anchoring spot for boaters as it offers protection from the prevailing southwest winds that are common to this area. A typical weekend will have dozens of boats enjoying the leeward shore with many staying the night. This beautiful island almost became home to a nuclear power plant in the 60's and only a concerted effort by local residents prevented it.
